Declaring May 2016 as “Bike Month” and May 16-20, 2016 as “Bike-to-Work Week,” and encourage participation in the National Bike Challenge beginning May 1 – September 30, 2016 in Douglas County, Kansas

WHEREAS: For more than a century, the bicycle has been an important part of the lives of most Americans; and the bicycle is a viable and environmentally sound form of transportation, an excellent form of fitness, and a high quality family recreational activity; and

WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for economic development, sustainable development, tourism promotion, community revitalization, fostering local pride and maintaining community character while enhancing livability; and

WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and rural, and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds; and
