The Kansas River bridge at Lecompton will have one lane closed beginning April 24 through mid-May, weather permitting. The one open lane will be narrow with an 11’ width. The narrow open lane will restrict vehicles over legal width (8.5'), including wide agricultural equipment, from crossing the bridge. Alternating one-lane traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals with anticipated delays of 3-5 minutes.
The one lane closure and narrow open lane is to allow placing a multi-layer polymer concrete overlay on the bridge deck. Douglas County’s contractor, Bettis Asphalt & Construction, anticipates three weeks to complete the work, weather permitting. Some work may occur at night depending on weather and temperatures.
The multi-layer polymer concrete overlay will protect the bridge deck against deterioration and extend the service life of the bridge. The work is part of a Douglas County contract with Bettis Asphalt & Construction to complete overlays on four bridges. The low bid contract amount is $284,505.50, and is funded through Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program.
