The pretrial release officer provides investigative work and information to the district court, which determines the release recommendations of those booked into custody. The pretrial officer conducts a full intake and investigation and provides a first appearance report that is used by judges to make their pretrial release decisions. Pretrial officers supervise defendants placed on pretrial release with and without electronic monitoring, and conduct surveillance to ensure compliance with release conditions.
Primary responsibilities include the following: (1) Conduct pretrial interviews and investigations (2) Prepare summary reports for first appearances (3) Facilitate pretrial supervision release (4) Connect electronic monitoring devices and investigate violations (5) Prepare violation reports for court and provide testimony (6) Other duties as assigned
The applicant must be familiar with the operation of the criminal justice system and be able to effectively communicate with the program participants and their families. The employee must be able to deal effectively and professionally with defendants from various backgrounds, while in various stressful conditions, and with a highly volatile, and potentially violent population. The employee must be able to deal productively, professionally and confidentially with Judges, non-judicial personnel, attorneys, law enforcement officials and jail staff.
Applicants must have a B.S. in criminal justice, social services, or related degree and case management experience, a valid driver’s license, strong organizational and problem solving skills, and excellent communication and writing skills. Preferred qualifications include direct experience working with the incarcerated populations and the courts.
This is a full time position, primarily evening and some weekend hours. Starting salary is $17.86 with excellent benefits. Background check will be required.
