2016 Food Policy Council Annual Report This annual report documents the work of the Douglas County Food Policy Council in 2016. It was delivered in person to the Board of County Commissioners on February 1, 2017.
2017 DCFPC Annual Report This Annual Report was submitted to the City of Lawrence Commission to summarize the work of the Food Policy Council in 2017. A similar version was delivered in-person to the Douglas County Commission.
2017 Douglas Co. Food System Assessment. This assessment, updating much of the secondary data from the 2011 Douglas County Food System Assessment, gathers information about each sector in our local food system to understand where we are, and what challenges and opportunities can guide work going forward. The report may also point to additional needed research to better understand root causes or new opportunities to help build a stronger local food system.

2017 Douglas County, KS Local Food Wholesale Directory WEB This updated directory exists to make it easier for local foods to reach wholesale buyers in Douglas County, KS. It includes a local food seasonality chart, information on 26 area producers and 22 county wholesale food buyers, including grocery stores, school districts, and restaurants. The regional food hub is included as both a provider and purchaser of local foods! In addition, local organizations working on gleaning and recovery are featured along with information concerning food donation laws and protections for good faith donors.

About the Douglas County Food Policy Council

The purpose of the Council is:

  • To advise elected officials on food-system* related policy issues and opportunities.
  • To provide a community forum for local food system* development.

Participation by diverse voices from all parts of the local food system is essential to the mission and work of the Council. In particular, the Council seeks to recruit members based on two essential considerations:
