Health, Housing and Human Services in Douglas County
Douglas County is served by a strong network of health, housing and human services agencies and non-profit organizations. Through the annual budget process, Douglas County provides more than $16 million in operational and programming support to the following through the Behavioral Health Projects, Community Partners, and Behavioral Health Sales Tax budgets.
Douglas County funding ensures the ongoing availability of affordable and accessible health care services to our community at large as well as special populations, including seniors, disabled individuals, and youth. These funds also ensure there is a safety net for individuals experiencing a financial emergency and or economic hardship, including access to food, rent, and utility supports.

Douglas County Human Services Coalition – The Human Services Coalition is a collective impact organization that works collaboratively to meet the health and human service needs of Douglas County and create equitable, trauma informed systems and services to increase access to care and reduce poverty. The Coalition is convened by the United Way of Douglas County and the Douglas County Administrator's Office. The Human Service email list allows direct service providers, administrators, and partners to communicate service or program updates and needs, collaboration opportunities, and discuss emerging health and human services issues. The 2018-2023 Douglas County Community Health Plan sits on a foundation committed to creating health equity in Douglas County. As the steward of this plan with community partners, the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department is working to create the conditions for health for all.
